In partnership with the St. John’s Rowing Club and Canadian Forces Station St. John’s, The Royal St. John’s Regatta Committee is pleased to announce the first competitive event of the 2016 rowing season. The inaugural Ice MeltErg Indoor Rowing Challenge will take place on Saturday, April 23, 2016.
This event provides rowers the opportunity to take part in healthy competition, in preparation for the upcoming rowing season.
“As a firm supporter of healthy, active lifestyles, we are continuously seeking ways to promote physical activity amongst the community. The Ice MeltErg Indoor Rowing Challenge is the first of its kind in the history of the Province and like The Royal St. John’s Regatta, we hope it is the first of many”
– Chris Neary, Royal St. John’s Regatta Committee Vice President and Captain of the Course
The Indoor Regatta takes place at the W. Anthony Paddon gym, using ergometers and cutting edge software. Participants are invited with all levels of experience, from beginner to advanced.
“Ergometers are very important to the The St. John’s Rowing Club as we use them in off-season to keep up with the rigorous training plan of our competitive rowers. This event will allow people a true taste of rowing, even if they have never been on the water”.
– Chris Clark, St, John’s Rowing Club President
“Canadian Forces Station St. John’s is excited to host this event promoting physical activity and fitness along with community partners like the Royal St. John’s Regatta Committee and St. John’s Rowing Club. The Ice MeltErg challenge will bring together some of the province’s best rowers to the station and will prove to be a great way to kick off the summer training season right here in Quidi Vidi.”
– Lieutenant-Commander Gerald V. Parsons, CD
Registration is now open and is expected to fill quickly. Those interested in participating are encouraged to visit stjohnsregatta.com for further details and to take advantage of the April 18, online registration end date.
