The Royal St. John’s Regatta Committee Names the 2022 Regatta in Honour of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee
2022 commemorates an exceptional anniversary – 70 years since Her Majesty, The Queen ascended to the throne, marking the longest reign of any British Monarch in history.
“History is vital to the Royal St. John’s Regatta Committee thus, given its close ties to the Monarchy, The Royal St. John’s Regatta Committee will honour this momentous anniversary with the 2022 Platinum Jubilee Royal St. John’s Regatta.”
– Noelle Thomas Kennell, President
For many years, the close ties to the Monarchy have been a source of great pride for those involved in the Regatta, with the first Royal visit in 1860 by Prince Albert Edward. In 1993, for only the fourth time in the history of the Province, the Committee was bestowed the prestigious honour of the official Royal status designation, with the Royal prefix granted by Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth II.
“Many don’t realize the significance of the “Royal” which precedes “St. John’s Regatta”, viewing it only as the title of a sporting event which has been around forever. However, it’s much more than a title, it illustrates an esteemed accolade, provided to very few organizations.
– Noelle Thomas Kennell, President
The Royal St. John’s Regatta is the oldest continuing organized sporting event in North America, with 2022 marking the 204th anniversary.
