Royal St. John’s Regatta Committee Announces 200th Anniversary Products
The Royal St. John’s Regatta Committee is excited to announce special locally-made products celebrating the Regatta’s 200th anniversary.
“We are so happy to partner with local businesses to produce these commemorative items,” said Chris Neary, President of the Royal St. John’s Regatta Committee. “These products will make great gifts and souvenirs for this year’s historic Regatta.”
A featured item is the artwork of St. John’s-based artist Sailor Danny, who was commissioned to create the Regatta’s official 200th anniversary painting. His eye-catching piece details many of the Regatta’s well-known themes and reflects the event’s energy and joy.
“It’s a day at the races, from the races themselves to the festival taking place along the lake in celebration,” Sailor Danny said. “From young to old and generations past who have taken part in the Regatta.”
Sailor Danny has created prints of his commemorative artwork, which are available directly from the artist and at Posie Row on Duckworth Street. Check out “Sailor Danny’s Art” on Facebook for more information.
Newfoundland Chocolate Company
The Newfoundland Chocolate Company has created a series of six Regatta-themed bars:
- Sailor Danny’s official painting is highlighted on a bar of milk chocolate with blueberries;
- The earliest illustration of a St. John’s Regatta in 1875 appears on a bar of milk chocolate coffee hazelnut;
- An 1885 photo of rowers on Quidi Vidi Lake appears on a bar of dark chocolate sea salt;
- A photo of the 1901 Outercove Crew who achieved their famous record of 9:13 is featured on a bar of dark chocolate wildberry;
- A photo showing the crowds has always been as integral to the celebrations appears on a bar of extra smooth milk chocolate;
- A photo entitled “And they’re off!” appears on a bar of milk chocolate orange.
“We are thrilled to have this opportunity to support the Regatta Committee in honour of 200 years of sporting excellence and community spirit,” said Brent Smith, owner and Chief Chocolate Officer.
All bars are handcrafted and hand-packaged right here in Newfoundland, with no preservatives or artificial flavours. For more information, visit www.newfoundlandchocolatecompany.com.
