Royal St. John’s Regatta Committee holds Annual General Meeting and Election of Officers
January 23, 2019
(St. John’s, NL) – The Royal St. John’s Regatta Committee held their Annual General Meeting and election of officers at the Royal St. John’s Regatta Boathouse on January 23, 2019.
“We had an extremely productive and successful rowing season,” said Royal St. John’s Regatta President Chris Neary, noting that 2018 marked the Regatta’s 200th anniversary. “We want to continue that momentum moving forward with the growth of the Regatta and the sport of fixed-seat rowing in 2019 and beyond.”
The Royal St. John’s Regatta is the oldest-continuing organized sport event in North America. It is overseen by the 50-member Regatta Committee, all of whom volunteer their time to plan the biggest tourism events in Newfoundland and Labrador. Meetings are held monthly, beginning in March of each year.
The Committee is led by a 10-member Board of Directors, each with a unique portfolio. The Directors are responsible for a specific area applicable to Regatta Day and associated events: President; Vice-President; Treasurer; Secretary; Director – Boathouse & Pond; Director – GroundSpace; Director – Communications; Director – Sponsorship; and Director – Hospitality.
“I am really looking forward to what the Committee and Staff can achieve in the year ahead,” said Mr. Neary. “We will continue to make great strides in building our programs. This includes our Health and Wellness Program and Chevron Learn to Row Program, as a healthy community and youth participation are two major areas we continually strive to enhance .”
